I really love when my friends are doing interesting stuff… In this case, Phil takes on the Civil War.
So it’s fair to say that I haven’t exactly been the best blogger recently. Up until recently, the blog has been a little dormant. I’ve been feeling a little uninspired and looking for a writing outlet that I could get excited about again.
Well, the amazing folks at RVA News approached me about an idea: a chronological re-telling of the events of the Civil War as they unfolded in Richmond 150 years ago. Other blogs like the NY Times Disunion blog are doing a day-by-day retelling of the entire war, but ours will be a lot smaller in scale - only about two articles a month, focusing primarily on events in and around Richmond. It’s geared towards people who may not know a lot about the war or people who are marginally interested, so don’t be intimidated. It’s meant to be an easy read.
It’s a total thrill because while I love the Civil War, I’m certainly no expert. Each article has me going online, looking at original source material, reading books and articles and blogs. It’s as much a writing project as it is a research project. I’m really excited about the learning opportunities that this little endeavor will bring.
If you click the picture or this link right here, it will take you to the special Civil War section of the site. My first article centered around Virginia’s decision to secede from the Union. Go check it out!
